Hats off to Kaepernick

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been kneeling during the national anthem to protest systematic racism and injustice in our nation. Kaepernick stated, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color”. His protests have stirred up talk around the NFL and United States, some for him and some against him. However, Kaepernick took the criticism to heart and decided to change up his protest plans for his last game against the cowboys. It is a well-known Tradition for people to take off their hats during their country’s anthem. However, Kaepernick decided that he would really stick it to the man last Sunday by wearing not one, not two, but THREE hats during the national anthem.NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell had this to say about Kaepernick’s protest and rebel ways

“I think it’s important if they see things they want to change in society, and clearly we have things that can get better in society, and we should get better. But we have to choose respectful ways of doing that so that”.

Athletes around the United states have taken model after Kaepernick by either kneeling or raising a fist in the air, but will his latest protest catch on? Will People around the world be wearing three hats? Will the 3 hats become a meme? Will this be the catalyst that the United States needs to finally bring justice to minorities? Only time will tell.
