Giving vs Receiving

Natalie Hornbaker, Staff Writer

An often asked question—especially around the holiday season—is whether it is more beneficial to give or receive. Of course it is great to get new possessions, but overall giving allows for a greater experience.

1. Giving Makes Us Happy

By giving someone something, rather it be kindness or materialistic things, it makes us happy. Seeing people’s reactions to receiving a gift and how thankful they are to have received something they may have wanted or needed, is something that can put anyone in a better mood.

2. Giving Helps Our Community

When giving, others around us benefit. With everyone giving, everyone receives and we begin living in a world of kindness and sharing.

3. Buddha Said So

“Before giving, the mind of the giver is happy; while giving, the mind of the giver is made peaceful; and having given, the mind of the giver is uplifted.” -Buddha

All around us people face difficulties. This holiday season, help make someone’s day better by giving! With a warm heart, everyone will have a great holiday season.
