What happened at the Olympic Games?

The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games took place in February. They were located in PyeongChang County, South Korea. The countries winning the most medals in order were Norway, Germany, Canada, the U.S., and Netherlands.

The U.S. didn’t do as well this year as it has done in the past. The target for this year was to win 37 medals; the U.S. fell very short with only 23. The U.S. struggled in the Sochi Olympics of 2014, with high expectations and receiving only 28 medals total.

This year’s games was disappointing, but there is no reason to believe it was all on performance. The geography was a big factor of the disappointment. The events America is dominant in are snowboarding and free skiing. Going into the future, the U.S. might be better off if more events come in those categories.

Chloe Kim, Shaun White, Jamie Anderson, Redmond Gerard were all Gold Medal finalists.
