NFL Midseason Awards

Matt Sweren, Staff Writer

This year’s NFL season has been one to remember. The Cowboys are winning with a backup quarterback, Pittsburgh is not leading their division. And Green Bay is not living up to expectations. So here are the individual performers who have shined through this season and who I believe deserve the mid season awards.

Offensive Rookie of the Year

Ezekiel Elliott

Running behind the best offensive line in football helps this young running back succeed but even without them he could still be an absolute star. He has helped the Cowboys go on a 10 game win streak and has lead them into clinching a playoff spot. Leading the league in rushing he has 1,285 yards, 12 touchdowns.

Defensive Rookie of the Year

Jalen Ramsey

The young stud coming out of Florida state has had a phenomenal rookie season becoming a lockdown corner with the Jacksonville Jaguars. With 51 tackles on the year he has my vote on defensive rookie of the year.

Defensive Player of the Year

Von Miller

This reigning super bowl MVP has not stopped. With a huge contract extension over the off season he has performed amazing for how tough the broncos schedule is. With 53 tackles on the year and 11 sacks hes got my vote on defensive player of the year.

Derek Carr

Leading a struggling raiders team for the past couple years he’s finally found his rhythm and the raiders are 9-2. He has finally become the vocal leader he needs to be and the raiders are finally becoming the team they needed to be 2 years ago with 24 touchdowns and 3,492 yards this season. He is beyond anyone for MVP this year.
