How to keep New Year’s Resolutions

Jamie Hoover, Staff Writer

As New Years rolls around, everyone begins making their resolutions. From losing weight and wanting to exercise more to wanting to become a nicer person, everyone creates reasonable goals they want to achieve. Although people create resolutions it can be very difficult to keep up with them. So, I’ve created a few tips in order to keep your New Year’s resolutions this year!

1.Write Down Your Goals

This will help you know and remember exactly what you are wanting to do. Write it on something you see everyday, so you will be motivated to take an action. Writing down what you want to achieve will definitely help you out in the long run.

  1. Start Small

To maintain a goal it’s always best to do it in small increments. For example, if you want to lose weight don’t go to the gym and immediately start lifting the heaviest weight you can find. Start by using what you can lift and gradually add weight. By starting small you will be able to achieve more.

  1. Be Specific

Don’t just say you want to lose weight, say you want to lose ten pounds in a specified amount of time. By having a narrowed down goal you can practice specific actions. This will also help you notice what you’ve accomplished faster.

  1. Get Support

When making a resolution it’s much easier to accomplish it when you have other people helping you. Whatever your goal may be its much easier to do with someone that motivates and supports you.

  1. Be Realistic

If your goal is to be a millionaire and you’re in highschool thats probably not going to happen. But, if you say you want to make money then there’s ways to achieve that, like by getting a job. It’s always good to have a big goal in mind, but just make sure it’s reachable.
