5 Ways to Make 2017 the Best Year

Natalie Hornbaker, Staff Writer

  1. Everybody sets New Year’s Resolutions and abandons them, which is why I’m not a fan of resolution-setting. When you set New Year’s Resolutions, you’re basically telling yourself to get your life together. This year, forget resolutions and get a journal instead. Give yourself the gift of self-reflection.
  2. Try a new dish every week, listen to new music and shake up your routine. Travel to school a different way from your usual commute. Try a different grocery store. See how your creative brain rewards you in 2017!
  3. Give yourself a tiny treat every day. The time and attention you give yourself will pay off enormously. Make your favorite snack to bring to school, cut up fruit for your water bottle or take just a second to reward yourself because you deserve it.
  4. Get a new habit of thanking people around you, at school and elsewhere. People get too little acknowledgment, and it is so nice to recognize people and to be recognized.
  5. Limit your time in 2017 with people who don’t make you happiest. Spend time with those who make you laugh and enjoy the simplicity of life.
