Horror Films With Shockingly True Story Lines

Olivia Stengem, Staff Writer

There’s nothing like bundling up in a dark room to watch a terrifying movie during the spooky season. There are millions of horrifying films out there, but if you really want to be scared beyond belief, here are three nail biting films based off true stories.

  • Silent House (2011) R

This American Horror Film focuses around a young woman who is terrorized in her home along with her father and uncle by a stranger. The Movie is known for using clips of “real film” of the original incident that happened in Uruguay in the 1940’s.

  • Annabelle (2014) R

The movie focuses in on a strange doll who appears to be haunted. It may seem unbelievable that a doll could be haunted, but there is indeed a real Annabelle doll. The real doll is currently in a glass box on display in The Warrens’ Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut. Legend has it, the doll is possessed like portrayed in the movie.

  • The Conjuring 2 (2016) R

The latest movie in the Conjuring franchise is in fact another true tale. The movie sets around the infamous Enfield Case. The true story states that on August 30, 1977, a haunting began in Peggy Hodgson’s Enfield home. Parts of the movie were added in to dramatize the incident, for example, the crosses turning upside down on the walls never did happen.
