How would you feel if you did not have the chance to attend school because your parents believed it was forbidden?

The book Educated is a very deep story about a family whose leader was convinced that the government was dangerous. The author describes her live as a survivalist and explains the complications of living life without an education. It isn’t until when Westover studies psychology in college that she then discovers that her father had a mental illness.

Having a mental illness means so much more than just being diagnosed. It means dealing with the effects of depression or anxiety which is hard for a majority of people. The author describes her childhood in an informative tone that allows the reader to view the world differently.

Educated allows the reader to gain a new perspective on life. Everyone has a background that is different and unique in it’s own way. Although, people often forget that our backgrounds do not define who we are. It is our future that matters.
