2017 Netflix Shows

Maggie Coleman, Staff Writer

2017, as a whole, was pretty bad. Although there’s a positive side! Some pretty interesting Netflix shows premiered in 2017, and helped distract us from the mess that was 2017. Keep reading if you don’t know what to watch or want some new recommendations.

Stranger Things 2

This was by far my favorite show of 2017, but you need to watch the original season of Stranger Things to fully appreciate Stranger Things 2. Set in the 80s, it tells the story of Will Byers as he adjusts to life after being taken by a monster, and some unforeseen consequences. It’s a great show to watch if you like sci-fi, throwbacks, or action. Beware, though. There’s some gore, so if you’re squeamish, I’d pass.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – This show made me laugh until I cried. It tells the story of Kimmy Schmidt, who was kidnapped by a reverend and made to believe it was the end of the world. She escapes, and continues the rest of her life trying to make it in New York City. It’s directed by Tina Fey, who also occasionally makes a guest appearance. I’d recommend this show if you need a good laugh or some positivity, as Kimmy is known for being overly bright and positive.

The Crown The Crown depicts the life of Queen Elizabeth II and all the political drama that happened during the beginning of her reign. It’s a historical show, but it’s far from boring. The writers emphasize drama and gossip rather than political events, though it’s still included. If you’re not a fan of historical TV shows, I’d still give The Crown a chance. There are two seasons on Netflix right now, so it’s perfect to binge watch.
