Music Review: Mr. Davis by Gucci Mane

Joshua Canfield, Staff Writer

The new Gucci Mane album, Mr. Davis was released on October 13 with label Atlantic Records. The 17-track album shows the newfound life of Gucci Mane, or Radric Delantic Davis. Davis names his album Mr. Davis to show his life after his arrest in 2014 and his release in 2016, depicting his new freedom and how his time in prison made him a better man. Most of the songs are featuring other famous artists, like Migos, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky and more. Some songs are meant for the broader hip-hop/rap culture audience, such as “I Get the Bag” or “Tone it Down.” Other songs focus more on Davis’s past in songs like “Work in Progress” and “Back On.” Davis reformed his public image since his release with the new albums Mr. Davis in 2017 and Everybody Looking in 2016. He put down the “purple drank” and got on a knee to marry his new wife Keyshia Ka’Oir in October 2017.

Mr. Davis has to be my favorite album this year. It tells the story of a man pushing forward and not looking back. Songs like “Work in Progress” and “Money Piling” show the trial and triumphs of Davis. He says this is best album yet as he posted on his Twitter before the release.
