Movie Review: Fate of the Furious

Movie Review: Fate of the Furious

Evan Starr, Staff Writer

Fate of the Furious is directed by Felix Gary Gray and is the eighth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Tyrese Gibson are all back playing their respected characters, along with a few new faces.

I have loved the Fast and Furious franchise ever since I watched Fast Five, and this movie does not disappoint; it is even better than expected. Fate of the Furious sticks to what the franchise does best — over the top action sequences. Yes, this movie definitely qualifies as one of those “stupid” action thriller that everyone loves, like every other Fast and Furious movie. This movie is very entertaining; there is never a dull moment in Fate of the Furious, along with hilarious scenes and dialogue (especially by Dwayne Johnson’s character Hobbs and Jason Statham’s character Ian Shaw). This movie will keep you engaged throughout the run time.

Though mostly positives, there are a couple negatives. One particular action scene involves zombie cars and is just way too over the top and unbelievable. I know we’re talking about a movie (a Fast and Furious movie, that is), but I found this scene very unnecessary and it felt like it was forced into the movie. The plot of the movie most of the time was pretty good, but it did at times get very convoluted and I felt like there too many things going on at once at certain points in the movie.

Fate of the Furious definitely met the standards expected from a Fast and Furious movie with over the top action sequences and with it being more funny than most comedies this movie is a blast to go see and is 100% worth your time and money. But don’t go in expecting a serious movie with a flawless plot, because that is what this movie is not. I give Fate of the Furious an A.
