Kendrick Lamar is HUMBLE.

Haley Goodman, Editor-in-Chief

Kendrick Lamar released his single “HUMBLE.” on March 31. It has already climbed to #2 on his Spotify Popular list with over 15 million plays as of now. It’s right behind “The Heart Part 4” and will probably pass it in the few weeks ahead.

Lamar is one of my favorite artists because of the unique sound most of his music encompasses. This new single is not the most standout song I’ve ever heard, but it’s definitely in a step toward rap’s true roots.

Lots of rap cannot stand on its own nowadays, so artists add features or jazzy music, and sometimes simply feature in a song itself. So this single leads me to believe his next album is going to “go harder” than previous and be more of a strictly rap album.

Kendrick puts a constant beat behind his lyrics throughout most of the track. The lyrics themselves aren’t slurred or as hard to understand compared to a lot of rap today. His unique voice gives it a distinct sound without trying too hard. I definitely agree that being humble is not a popular topic in the genre of music and love how Lamar makes it the priority of the song.

If you like rap music I definitely suggest giving it a listen, as well as Kendrick Lamar’s last album untitled unmastered, and of course his other classics. Be on the lookout for the entire album which should be released soon.
