Stress Free Songs

With the rush and busy schedule some student have during the school year, it’s hard not to get stressed over the little things. Or in my case, stressed and super anxious over the little and stupid things.

It’s a miracle I can survive a full day without breaking down in the middle class, but I am able to find a few things that keep me together till I can get home and fully relax. One of those things is music, a typical calming thing for many people.

These are six songs that calm my nerves and anxiety instantly, and hopefully will help your nerves as well.

“Through the Dark” by One Direction

If I could put every song by One Direction on this list, I would. But if I had to choose one song that always calms me down, it’s definitely this one. Part of the reason this song can bring me to ease is because, well, it’s One Direction, and who doesn’t love a bit of One Direction? But in all seriousness, this song is so simple and sweet, making my love for One Direction grow more and more and clearing away all of my anxiety.

“Vagabond” by MisterWives

The meaning of vagabond is a person who wanders to different places without a home or job. This was one of the first songs I heard by MisterWives, and I instantly fell in love with the music, the singer’s voice, and the lyrics of the song. The simplicity of the song is one of the few things that will make me totally calm and makes me sing along every time.

“Helena Beat” by Foster the People

Foster the People was the first alternative/indie band I really got into and started listening on a regular basis back in middle school. I think this song just brings me back to that time in middle school where I didn’t have to worry about colleges or what I wanted to do with my life.

“Work Song” by Hozier

No matter how many times I hear this song, it will never get old. I absolutely love Hozier’s voice in the song and I love the story this song tells about a love for someone that gets them through a day of tough work. If you haven’t listened to any Hozier, please do, because at least one of his songs will be your go-to song.

“Drunk” by Ed Sheeran

In September, I was able to see Ed Sheeran live at Toyota Stadium. To this day, it’s my favorite concert experience because I was the closest I’ve ever been to the stage at any concert. This has always been my favorite song by Ed Sheeran, and hearing this song takes me back to that hot September night, standing in the crowded general admission area with everyone singing along. Ed Sheeran is another artist that will have at least one go-to song for everyone, so I highly suggest you listen to his music.

“First” by Cold War Kids

I recently developed a very strong love for this song, and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it. I’m not sure what it is with this song, but hearing this song always makes me happy and I end up screaming out the lyrics. It’s my current jam-out song and it’s one that I could listen to for hours and hours. Cold War Kids is such a great band, and with Nathan Willett’s powerful voice in this song, it will definitely make you fall in love.
