Remember Who You Are

The Lion King, 2019. A remake of the ages to throw the 90s and 00s kids back to their childhoods. This remake has been the talk for some time now, ever since the cast was released.

Not to my surprise, Beyoncé was all the buzz. However, it did surprise me that no one is talking about the fact that James Earl Jones is Mufasa. Again.

It has been twenty-five years since the original Lion King came out. Twenty-five years. When have any notable movies ever had a remake or maybe even a remake of a sequel, that came out after that span of time, with a returning actor? And that actor is James Earl Jones?

It may be just me, but I don’t get why it’s so iconic that Beyoncé’ is playing Nala. If anyone is exemplary, it’s Jones. He’s starred in many beloved movies, some classics, like The Lion King, The Sandlot, Coming to America, and The Hunt for Red October, and more. His voice is renowned and well-known, and each character he plays is as well. He is Mufasa.

Nonetheless, I am very excited to see how this all turns out and what the finished product will render. Though I am sad some actors cannot return, like Madge Sinclair, who voiced Sarabi, and Robert Guillaume, who voiced Rafiki, due to their passing, I am hopeful for the new cast and of course, wish them the best.

And now, I will await trailers and glimpses of production for the next eighteen months.
